The buzzard is the largest British bird of prey next to the Golden Eagle. The size and soaring ability of this bird often leads to its being mistaken for the much larger eagle. The buzzard has rich brown plumage and lighter under-parts. The distinctive forward swept wings and the duration of seemingly effortless gliding and soaring make this species easily recognisable.

Buzzards can be found throughout Europe and Asia. Buzzards prefer wooded, hilly countryside or wooded farmland. In the UK Buzzards are predominantly found in west Scotland, Lake District, south west England and Wales

Although thought by farmers and gamekeepers to be a predator, and hunted as such, the buzzard will eat rabbit and hare as it’s main diet. Too lazy to hunt, the buzzard will often be seen eating carrion or road-kill.
