Western Screech Owl (Otus kennicottii)

This is a small owl with small ear tufts and bright yellow eyes. Max is a gray morph of screech owl which is the most common, a red coloured morph also exists. The face is generally whitish, dark mottled upper-parts, paler streaked and vermiculated under-parts.

The Western Screech Owl can be found in southern Alaska though to western Canada, America and Mexico. It prefers open woodland, semi-open areas with trees and scrub, parks, gardens and cactus desert land.

The Screech Owl’s diet consists of insects, small mammals, birds, also reptiles and amphibians.
