The Long Eared Owl is a medium sized, long winged owl with prominent ear tufts. Upper-parts are a mottled mixture of black, buff, brown and white, below whitish-grey with brown streaks and barring. It has a large prominent facial disk with white eyebrows and bright orange eyes.

This owl prefers mainly open habitat near to tree or hedge cover, including pastureland, grassland, forest with clearings, marshland with willows etc. The long Eared owl can be found pretty widely spread from Europe and northern Africa across to China and Japan and as far south as Egypt and S. China, to N. America and Mexico.

It’s food consists mainly of small mammals, mice, voles and birds.
