A medium sized owl with prominent “ear tufts” the upper-parts are dusky grey-brown with pale spots, the under-parts are whitish and finely barred. The African Spotted Eagle Owl’s facial disk is whitish to pale ochre. A more rufous morph exists in more arid areas. |

This owl is found in Africa, south of the equator, and some parts of the Arabian peninsula. The natural habitat is savannah, rocky outcrops, scrub, open and semi-open woodland and semi-desert land. |

The African Spotted Eagle Owl’s natural diet consists of invertebrates, small mammals, birds and reptiles. |
